Philadelphia Eagles vs Washington Commanders

Tonight's primetime game features a showdown between the two best teams in the NFC East. Washington comes off of a 28-27 home loss to Pittsburgh where they blew a 24-14 lead. Washington prefers to run, but the Philadelphia run defense is the fifth-best in the NFL in yards allowed at 100.7 per game. Washington's run defense is 26th, allowing 142.7 yards rushing per contest, plus they're 28th in rushing yards per carry allowed at 4.8, and 23rd on third down (42.1%). Meanwhile, Philadelphia has won five in a row. The Eagles average 176.1 yards rushing, the second-most in the league, while the defense is second in total yards allowed, sixth in points given up (17.9 per game), and 13th on third down (35.78%). The Eagles won both meetings last year, scoring 34 and 38 points. With the wagering value on the home team to extend its win streak, I'm backing Philadelphia on the moneyline.

The Philadelphia Eagles redeemed a disappointing loss to the New York Jets, with a big win vs. Miami 31-17. It was a personal defensive challenge, and the Eagles showed up big. Their defense clamped down on the elite Miami offense and allowed just 244 total yards. I think coming off the different emotions of those last two games, is going to lead to something less than their "A" game. Washington has allowed 33 or more points scored against them in four of their six games. This is a sandwich game with Dallas and Kansas City waiting for Philadelphia. I think Washington can get enough points here to push this game OVER the total, and I don't think they are going to have to score much. Make the play on the OVER.

The teams split last year's meetings with Washington winning the rematch 32-21 as an 11-point road underdog. The Commanders' Sam Howell earned some experience the hard way at Buffalo as he was sacked nine times and threw four interceptions in a 37-3 loss. Philadelphia is playing on a short week after beating Tampa Bay on Monday night and it was the running game that dominated as the Eagles totaled 201 rushing yards. Jalen Hurts completed 23 of 37 passes with two interceptions. Washington has covered five of its past seven road games and they are 13-6-2 ATS their past 21 games after allowing more than 350 yards their previous game. The UNDER is 21-8-1 in the Commanders' past 30 games following a loss of more than 14 points and they have stayed UNDER six of eight after any loss. Philadelphia is 5-1 UNDER versus NFC teams and 6-1 UNDER after totaling more than 150 yards rushing its previous game. The Eagles are 4-11 ATS on Sunday after playing on Monday night. Philadelphia will try to remain the NFL's only undefeated team and its QB Jalen Hurts has won 11 straight regular-season games and this season Hurts has thrown for 2,042 yards and 12 touchdowns with two interceptions plus he has run for 326 yards and six TDs. Washington has won three of its past four, but those three victories were against teams that currently are a combined 11-18-1. The Commanders blew a 17-7 fourth-quarter lead against Minnesota last week and lost when Greg Joseph kicked a 28-yard field goal with 12 seconds left for the Vikings. The Eagles are #4 in the league in total yards and #3 in yards allowed and #2 in pass defense. Washington is #25 in total yards of offense and #21 in passing yards. Taylor Heinicke completed 15 of 28 for 149 yards and two TDs with a pick against the Vikings. Philadelphia won the first meeting 24-8 in September and it went UNDER by 15.5 points. The UNDER is 19-7 in the Commanders' past 26 games against teams with winning records and they have stayed UNDER six of their past seven games overall.
