San Francisco is a big dog but plays hard for talented young coach Kyle Shanahan. They've been a dog the last three games yet won twice, 20-14 over Denver, 26-23 over Seattle, along with last week's 14-9 loss to the Bears. Rookie quarterback Nick Mullens has started the last seven games and has a force in tight end George Kittle (1,228 yards). In Sunday's 14-9 loss to the great Chicago defense, Mullens completed 22-of-38 passes for 241 yards. NFL road underdogs that are outscored by four points per game or more are 230-152 ATS after a close loss of six points or fewer. The 49ers defense is ranked #10 in yards allowed, anchored by defensive end DeForest Buckner (12 sacks). They are a big underdog to an overvalued public team with a flashy offense. The Rams are on a 3-8-1 spread run, plus 19-39-2 ATS at home against losing teams. On offense, star running back Todd Gurley's left knee issue could force the Rams to again start C.J. Anderson. The Los Angeles defense is a force, too, led by defensive tackle Aaron Donald (22.5 sacks). The UNDER is 11-5 when the Rams are at home versus a team with a losing road record. San Francisco has covered five of the last six meetings, and four of five in this stadium. Play San Francisco and the UNDER.
