Bill Belichick has a winning record (29-25) in the NFL preseason, but over the last five years he has seen his teams go just 8-12 as he matures. It seems like there has been a lot of comfort regarding personnel, and these games tended to lose the importance of giving a lot of minutes to key players. New England finds themselves back to having to rediscover who they are offensively as Brady will have mostly a new cast of receivers to throw to this season. The Patriots may need more defense this season while they wait to see how the offense responds to the new faces. Game one here should be about offensive experimentation and Belichick has nothing to prove offensively anymore. I don't think that Chip Kelly will feel the pressure to tip his hand and go all-in on offense here in the preseason. I think that he is going to hang onto a lot of those chips until the curtain comes up on the regular season. And, if he does throw a lot of the new stuff out there, game one is when a lot of mistakes will be made. While many will have a watchful eye on the Pats' offense, I think that Belchick's focus will be on defense, as he knows he may need them more this season. Take the UNDER here.
