This is the battle for the hearts and minds of football fans in the City of Angels! Both franchises are new to the area and the Chargers have more fans to win after a pair of poor performances in Weeks 1 and 2. The defense showed up last week in a 13-7 loss to the Saints. This is their third straight game in their new home city, too. The defense held the Saints to no TD passes and had three sacks, with the Saints going 3-for-14 on third down. The starters will play more and QB Philip Rivers looked sharp last week, completing 5-of-6 passes for 56 yards, one touchdown and a 145.1 passer rating. The Chargers are further along than the Rams, ranking #14 in offense last season, ninth in points (25.6 points per game), while the defense was #16 in yards, #10 against the run. They face a Rams' squad with weak/inexperienced QB play in Jared Goff and Sean Mannion. Last season the Rams ranked last in total offense and points, #31 in passing and rushing. The strength of the Rams is on defense, ranking ninth in yards allowed. In his last meeting against the Rams, Rivers was an efficient 29-for-35 for 291 yards and a touchdown.
