History is being made in this one, as we see the largest NFL point spread in the last 37 years. Not since the Pittsburgh Steelers were 27 point favorites back in 1976 have we seen a line this high. In case you are wondering, the largest ever point spread was 28 in 1966 (the underdog covered that one). This spread is so big thanks to the NFL's best team taking on the NFL's worst. The most noteworthy aspect of this huge number is that it is not deterring gamblers at all, as the bulk of the bets are coming in on Denver. In spite of that, the line is moving in the opposite direction, so that tends to say that big money is coming in on Jacksonville. I'm not going to try and make Jacksonville look like a team that can compete with Denver. They are awful and Denver has been great. But the line is the great equalizer. This is a once-in-a-lifetime chance. As Bodhi said in the classic movie Point Break, "Look at it! It's a once in a lifetime opportunity, man! Let me go out there and let me get one wave, just one wave before you take me in." Bodhi didn't let the opportunity pass, and neither will we. This all comes down to attitude and desire, and Denver is not very likely to deliver their "A" game here, at least not through four full quarters. Looking back through NFL history, just 29 times since 1989 have we seen a line of -17 or higher in an NFL contest. History shows the elite teams seldom show up. They are just 8-20-1 ATS in these lopsided games. Believe it or not, three of them have lost outright! I'm not calling for the outright Jacksonville win, but I'm taking the historic number of points.
