The Carolina Panthers are making headlines despite an 0-2 start to the season and the reason is clear: Cam Newton. Newton has thrown for more yards in his first two starts than anyone that preceded him in the NFL. Lost in the madness and record performances is the fact that this team is still 0-2. Despite Newton's lofty numbers, has anyone mentioned that he has already thrown four INTs? While the Panthers offense is ranked No. 2 in the NFL and has certainly improved, the turnovers always play a role in the outcome of a game, and right now Cam giveth, but Cam also taketh away. The defense is ranked No. 26 despite the offense having the ball more than a year ago. They are allowing 4.8 yards per carry on the ground, which plays right into the Jaguars strength on offense. Worse than that, the Panthers are giving up 10.4 yards per pass. Jacksonville brings in the No. 5 stop unit in the league, and although the Panthers will get theirs here, the Jags have the capacity to get more stops. This game will be high-scoring, and the Panthers have proven they can't win a high-scoring game yet. This line is way off the mark because the league, pundits, fans, and most of all gamblers love the Cam Newton storyline, and have bought it hook, line and sinker. When the public comes out of the fog, they will realize that the Panthers are 2-16 in their last 18 NFL regular season games, and Newton has yet to win an NFL game. Yet, his team is laying over a field goal here. The Jags are 8-2 to the OVER in their last 10 as a road dog, and 18-6 to the OVER as a dog in their last 24 overall. Under Jack Del Rio, this team is 19-10 OVER on the road after an UNDER and 9-1 OVER on the road after back-to-back UNDERs. The Panthers have only had one UNDER in their last nine following a loss. This one goes to Jacksonville, and finishes OVER the total.
