The Green Bay Packers have an assembly of players on both sides of the ball, befitting of a Super Bowl repeat. They have now gone an impressive 24 regular season games without losing one by more than 4 points. That certainly puts the oddsmakers at odds with themselves and the public, forcing their hand to post the Browns as a home dog in a meaningless preseason game. The Packers are going to be looking at teams to fill special teams, and backup roles, as this is an experienced unit on both sides of the ball. Clearly their objective here is finding role players, not winning. The Browns sandwiched a 5-4 mark around an 0-3 start and an 0-4 finish a year ago, showing both potential and vulnerability. Pat Shurmer will institute a West Coast offense, and Colt McCoy has the arm and accuracy to execute. Don’t forget that Shurmer had success in St. Louis with another young QB in Sam Bradford. The Browns strength is against the pass, which is what Green Bay does best. I think the Packers will be searching for a running game, leaving their potent passing attack to do their thing during the regular season. Take Cleveland here.
