Detroit has holes all over, coming off a 6-10 campaign ranked #20 in yards on offense, last in rushing while the defense was #18 in yards, #23 in points. And that was with WR Calvin Johnson, who has since retired. Coach Jim Caldwell cares little for preseason games and in last year's August road opener they lost 21-17 at Washington with 241 total yards. The offense averaged 3.5 yards per carry, the QBs were sacked four times, while the defense allowed 179 yards rushing. TE Eric Ebron's injury (Achilles) last week exposes the Lions' lack of depth at tight end. QB Dan Orlovsky is the backup to Matt Stafford and the No. 3 QB is rookie Jake Rudock. The Steelers always seem to have deep August QB rotations and 2016 is no exception with Ben Roethliserger, Bruce Gradkowski and Landry Jones, all who started regular season games last year. It is a deep all-around team that ranked fifth in points (26.4 points per game), third in total yards, while the attacking defense ranked #11 in points. They went with defense in the draft, grabbing CB Artie Burns (Miami, #25, first round), safety Sean Davis (second round), upgrading the depth and competition. In the first preseason home game last year they topped Green Bay, 24-19, as QB Jones was 10-of-19 for 172 yards and three QBs went 24-for-38 for 270 yards and three TDs. Meanwhile the defense allowed 200 total yards and had six sacks. Back Pittsburgh.
