San Francisco's confidence is sky high after winning its last five games last season and with Jimmy Garoppolo at quarterback and Kyle Shanahan in his second year as coach. Shanahan went 3-1 ATS in his first preseason in 2017 and the 49ers remember an embarrassing 40-10 loss to the Cowboys last season. Dallas has a history of not caring much about the preseason and Jason Garrett is 12-17 straight-up and 9-17-3 ATS in exhibition play. The Niners signed Richard Sherman to shore up the defensive backfield and he has been cleared to play after recovering from a torn Achilles that ended his season. The 49ers improved defensively in 2017 jumping to 24th in total defense after finishing last the year before. Wide receiver Marquise Goodwin had career highs in catches and yards and he caught 29 passes for 384 yards in the five games that Garoppolo started. Dallas' quarterback rotation under Dak Prescott is Cooper Rush, Mike White and Dalton Sturm, which means Prescott better stay healthy for the Cowboys' sake. Rush actually played in the win over San Francisco last year and was 1-for-3 passing for two yards and two rushes for 13 yards and that was the extent of his pro career so far while White and Sturm are rookies. C.J. Beathard, Nick Mullens and Jack Heneghan are the San Francisco backups. Beathard was the QB in the loss to the Cowboys last year and he played in seven games before Garoppolo came around and completed 123-of-224 for 1,430 yards. Mullens was on the practice squad last season and Heneghan is a rookie from Dartmouth. The Niners have the motivation to perform well in from of their home fans and a huge advantage in backup QBs with Beathard. Play the 49ers on the money line.
