Two pleasant surprises from last season meet tonight as the Super Bowl Champion New York Giants host the Browns. It will be the first home game for the G-Men after their unexpected run last season. As a result, you can bet the there will be a lot of "feel good" going on as the Giants walk down memory lane. Teams can easily lose sight of the task at hand in the preseason in situations like this. The Giants have already taken on that Superbowl "hangover" look as Eli Manning was just 2-6 for 19 yards in the opener vs the Lions. They will again be without their wide receiver trio that made noise last year, as Burress, Tyree and Toomer will all sit. These teams will also meet in the regular season in Cleveland, so don't look for either team to reveal a lot. The festive atmosphere could leave the Giants minds on the past, and not the present. There aren't many jobs that players are fighting for in New York so we don't expect a lot of intensity from them. Meanwhile, both quarterbacks in Cleveland have something to prove. Brady Quinn, who looked good last season, wants the starting job and the preseason is the only time he'll get to show his stuff (barring a regular season injury to Derek Anderson). Meanwhile, Anderson wants to prove the team made the right decision in rewarding him with a new contract. Romeo Crennel has posted a 9-3 ATS mark in the preseason without a losing year as he appears to want to win in these games. There's no reason to believe that he won't be trying for the "W" here following an opening week upset loss to the Jets. New York is 4-13 ATS in their last 17 preseason games as a home favorite. We think the Browns spoil the celebration in New York tonight.
