Carolina at Pittsburgh

Premium Pick

A pair of conservative, run-oriented offenses meet in Pittsburgh and both have weak QB play beyond the starters. Star QB Cam Newton won't play (broken rib). Even backup QB Derek Anderson has other concerns this week, taking the first-team reps while on call for the birth of his first child. Joe Webb has taken over as the quarterback for the second and third teams after the Panthers placed Matt Blanchard (concussion) on the injured reserve this week. With all these problems it's hard to see the Carolina offense doing anything this week, a unit that scored just 7 points on the road at New England. Pittburgh (1-2) hasn't shown much either, averaging 18 points per game. They had just 7 points through three quarters last week against a Philadelphia team that plays little defense. The Steelers' defense was embarrassed last week and players like Troy Polamalu have been vocal this week in practice about it. Polamalu was seen several times on the sideline voicing what appeared to be his displeasure with the defense to defensive end Cam Heyward. Look for more defense than offense by both teams - like last year's week four meeting (Panthers, 25-10). Play UNDER the Total.
