Baltimore at Miami

Baltimore has a fiery, hard-driving coach, which is a big plus in preseason. After two straight underachieving seasons of 5-11 and 8-8, they have something to prove in 2017. They raised hell last week, routing Washington, 23-3. QB Ryan Mallett was sharp, with plenty of starting experience in pre and the regular seasons, while the defense had 3 sacks, one pick and allowed 39 yards rushing, just 2.2 yards per carry. Seven players are out for the season because of injuries, so there is great competition for the backups to be impressive in August. John Urschel, who was expected to compete for the starting job at center, decided to retire just hours before the first full-squad practice of training camp. Darren Waller is suspended without pay for one year for also violating the NFL's substance abuse policy for the second time. On defense, the Ravens have shown solid depth, especially with their defensive ends and tackles. They head to Miami, a team with below average defensive talent that is dealing with the recent loss of their projected starting QB. Jay Cutler, who was just signed after a brief retirement, will start, still new to the playbook. Miami got a win in Week 1 but was not impressive, trailing 20-10 at home in the fourth quarter. The QBs threw two picks and the ground game was a joke with 60 yards rushing, 2.7 ypc. The Ravens win this one straight-up, so back Baltimore on the moneyline.
