Mike McDaniel has split six games in preseason in his two years as Miami coach and Raheem Morris is 5-7 straight up and 7-5 ATS with two teams, including 1-2 ATS his first year with Atlanta in 2023. The Dolphins are 5-1 ATS their past six preseason meetings with the Falcons, including 4-1 ATS with revenge and Miami lost last year's preseason meeting. Miami has covered seven of nine preseason games against NFC teams and Atlanta is 3-7 ATS its past 10 preseason road games. Miami backup quarterbacks behind Tua Tagovailoa are Mike White and Skylar Thompson. White has played 14 games in three NFL seasons, Thompson started three games in the 2022 season, including a playoff game against Buffalo and threw for 220 yards and the Dolphins were narrowly defeated 34-31 as 14-point underdogs. Atlanta's backups behind Kirk Cousins are Michael Penix Jr., and Taylor Heinicke. Penix will likely be brought along slowly and Heinicke has six years of NFL experience and started 15 games for Washington in 2021. The preseason trends favor Miami. Take the Dolphins.
