Atlanta Falcons vs Kansas City Chiefs

Atlanta was able to pull out a 22-21 win over Philadelphia taking advantage of a questionable play call and a dropped pass by Saquon Barkley with 1:46 left and then the Eagles gave Kirk Cousins plenty of time to throw with a weak pass rush and he guided the Falcons to the winning touchdown drive. Cousins was 20 of 29 with no interceptions and the Falcons rushed for 152 yards on 28 carries. It will be a different story against Kansas City, which is off to a 2-0 start after defeating Cincinnati 26-25 as Harrison Butker kicked the winning field goal as time expired. The Bengals outgained the Chiefs 320-286, but for the second week in a row Kansas City came up with the big plays to win it on the final play of the game. The Chiefs are 7-1 ATS dating to last season and Atlanta is 0-4 ATS after allowing more than 150 yards its previous game. The Falcons are 1-7 ATS following an ATS win. Atlanta has stayed UNDER four straight as a home underdog and six of seven as a home dog of 0.5-3.0 points. Kansas City has won 12 of 14 on the road and the Chiefs are 11-3 ATS in Week 3. Atlanta is 5-13 ATS its past 18 games. Take the Chiefs and the UNDER.

Kansas City is the defending Super Bowl champion and could win it again, but the Chiefs aren't good at covering point spreads. They didn't get the money for five straight games before ekeing out a 32-29 win at New Orleans on Sunday, which covered if you laid -2.5 points, but a push if not. Pat Mahomes passed for 254 yards and three touchdowns, and the Chiefs won their ninth in a row. This week, however, Kansas City is favored by 10-plus points against Atlanta, who are still seething from blowing another big lead against Tom Brady and the Buccaneers, which of course brought back memories of the 2017 Super Bowl. The Falcons have covered five of their last seven December games and seven of their last 10 road games overall. Kansas City running back Clyde Edwards-Helaire has combined for 1,100 yards rushing and receiving, but he is not expected to play due to hip and ankle injuries. Kansas City has stayed UNDER five of its last seven preseason contests, including the Chiefs' 17-10 home loss to Houston last week. The Falcons are 8-5 UNDER with Dan Quinn as coach and his last three preseason games went UNDER last year making it four in a row now. Andy Reid played four quarterbacks against the Texans with veteran Chad Henne completing 8-of-14 for 91 yards and a touchdown and interception and Chase Litton, a rookie out of Marshall, finishing 7-of-13 for 66 yards. Atlanta got a decent performance by rookie Kurt Benkert as he was 9-of-17 for 125 yards with an interception, but the running game was almost non-existent as it gained a total of 49 yards on 22 carries for a 2.2 average. Matt Ryan played one series and it didn't go well and he says he wants a second chance in this game. The Falcons had one first down and 34 total offense yards in the first half. Reid never has put too much importance on preseason games and Quinn says he still he has a lot of evaluating to do. Look for another low-scoring affair, so play the UNDER.

The Chiefs went to Denver last week and made a statement as they outlasted the Broncos on the road and came away with an overtime win. The Chiefs now head to Atlanta which is a critical game for them as they will have a huge showdown with Oakland the following week, and that game will mean a lot less if they don't first take care of business in Atlanta. This game is going to be a contrast of offense vs. defense. The Falcons have an elite offense, the Chiefs aren't found near them, too, in any offensive areas. The Chiefs are sneaky good on defense, they may give up some yards, but they are tough to score on. The testiment to that is they have allowed less than 20 points to eight of their last 10 opponents. The Falcons have scored well in a lot of games, but it should be noted they scored just 23 vs. Denver and 15 vs. Philadelphia, a pair of teams that defend much like the Chiefs. QB Matt Ryan in his career is 34-24 to the UNDER in games with a total from 45.5 to 52.5. Alex Smith is 37-24 to the UNDER in his career against a defense that allows 5.7 to 7.7 yards per pass attempt. Andy Reid has been a road master in his NFL coaching career at 49-30 ATS as a road dog, 92-60 ATS in all road games. Atlanta is just 43-64 ATS off a home win and 2-14 ATS off a home win in their last 16. Make the play on Kansas City and the UNDER.

Falcons QB Matt Ryan is a master at home where the Falcons are 14-3 with him taking snaps. But question marks arise on the road, and his playoffs resume is an ugly 0-3. Last year the Falcons did not even score in their playoff game. Atlanta posted a losing road record last season and lost four road games by a combined score of 41-102, so nothing comes easy for this team away from Atlanta. The Chiefs are no longer the doormat they had been for much of this century. They have won 17 games over the last two years, and before this team went into their “down" years, they were the toughest home dog in football. Now that they have turned the corner, they have become that once again, having gone 6-0 ATS in the last two years as a home dog. The Chiefs have a healthy Jamal Charles and Payton Hillis in the backfield now, and should have success running the ball here as they did in 2010. New Offensive Coordinator Brian Daboll likes to spread things out, opening the field for Matt Cassell and that could spell trouble for the Falcons who really struggled on natual turf last season (1-3, allowing over 350 yards per game). The Chiefs are 27-12 ATS in their last 39 non-conference home games, and always relish the role of a home dog. It's a new season and KC hopes and energy will be very high. Play on Kansas City.
