Phoenix won the last two meetings last year, first by dominating in a 107-65 blowout and then beat the Wings in overtime 101-100 in August. Dallas has improved and brings back its nucleus, including Skylar Diggins-Smith, Aerial Powers and Glory Johnson, but the Wings will have to show that their defense has improved as they ranked near the bottom in that category in 2017. Phoenix had a few needs and seems to have filled them all and, of course, returns Brittney Griner and WNBA all-time leading scorer Diana Taurasi. The Mercury also re-signed DeWanna Bonner, who is considered to be one of the league's best two-way players. Bonner missed last season due to pregnancy. The Mercury covered the number its last four home games last season and six of its last eight overall. Look for Phoenix to cover the number in its home opener, so play the Mercury.
