Toronto at New Jersey

Toronto had 48 shots on goal and still couldn't get anything past Sam Montembeault in a 1-0 loss to Montreal on Wednesday. Now they go to New Jersey for the Devils' true home opener and will likely face Jacob Markstrom, who already has a win as he stopped 30 shots in a 4-1 win over Buffalo on Friday in Prague. Markstrom finished with a 2.78 goals-against average and a .905 save percentage last season with Calgary. The Devils are 12-3 their past 15 games as favorites of -110 to -150, and the Maple Leafs finished last season losing four of five after allowing two or fewer goals their previous game. New Jersey has high hopes for a playoff spot after a disappointing 2023-24 season and they have a new coach in Sheldon Keefe. They are healthier out of the gate this year with Dougie Hamilton and Jack Hughes logging big minutes vs. Buffalo, and I like them to grab another W tonight. Take the Devils.
