Pittsburgh waited until the third period to wake up in Game 1, but then the Penguins exploded for three goals in less than five minutes to erase a 2-0 Washington lead and beat the Capitals 3-2. The Penguins won despite playing without forwards Evgeni Malkin and Carl Hagelin. Matt Murray did have 32 saves. It was the fourth time in seven playoff games this year that the Caps blew a two-goal lead. Malkin is questionable and Hagelin is doubtful for this game, but the Penguins showed last year that injuries don't bother them. Pittsburgh has won six road games in a row, and it's 5-2 the last seven meetings at Washington. Jake Guentzel has eight points his last two games and 16 points in the playoffs. The Capitals are 5-12 their last 17 conference semifinal games. Washington can't depend on Pittsburgh sleepwalking though the first period again. Play the Penguins.
