New York at Washington

The Washington Capitals won the Southeast, but the level of competition within the division was very weak. The Rangers finished even in the loss column with the Capitals, finishing second to the high-powered Penguins in the Atlantic. The Rangers finished the season hitting their stride as they won 10 of their last 14, and five of their last six. They had the edge on the Caps as well, winning two of three, with one of the wins in Washington by a 4-1 count. Their only loss was a 3-2 shootout thriller in the Nation's Capital. Washington also closed the season strong, but enter here with a telling 3-10 mark in their last 13 vs. the Atlantic, as well as a rusty 2-7 mark in their last nine on three days rest.
