The N.Y. Rangers are strong on defense at #10 in the NHL in goals allowed. They come off a 3-2 loss to Montreal with the offense struggling. They went 0-for-4 on the power play Tuesday and are 1-for-18 over the past seven games with the man advantage. New York is 3-for-39 over the past 14 games and 5-for-50 the last 17 games. However, it hasn't slowed down the winning, on a 7-2-1 run powered by defense. They face a Toronto team playing the fourth game in six nights and the team is 8-0 UNDER the total in those situations. There are depth concerns, with center Mitch Marner missing his fourth straight game tonight with a right shoulder injury. Defenseman Connor Carrick left in the first period Tuesday with an upper-body injury and will not play. Carrick's absence means that Alexey Marchenko will make his debut on the Maple Leafs defense Thursday. Look for more of a defensive battle than oddsmakers expect.
