New York and new coach Peter Laviolette started the season with a 5-1 win over Buffalo on Thursday as Chris Kreider scored twice and Igor Shesterkin stopped 23 shots. Shesterkin is likely in net again tonight as he comes off a 37-13-8 season in 2022-23. Columbus lost to Philadelphia 4-2 and it was Pascal Vincent's first game as coach of the Blue Jackets, who aren't expected to do nearly as well as the Rangers this season although better than their injury-filled 2022-23 season. Elvis Merzlikins had 33 saves and the Flyers scored two empty-net goals. New York has won six of eight meetings, including the last three last season and the road team has won 11 of the past 15 meetings. New York has won five of six at Columbus.
