NHL totals seldom get higher than this one which is set at 6.5. It has a lot to do with the fact that Pittsburgh has scored 20 goals in their last three games. Looking back, they scored just 13 in their previous five prior to the latest three-game onslaught. It sure looks like there is some positive scoring variance driving the total. The Islanders have not been scoring consistently at all as they have tallied two or fewer goals in five of their last seven and at the same time have been tightening things up on the defensive end, allowing a single goal in each of their last two.
