Detroit had high hopes of finally making the playoffs after coming so close last season, but the Red Wings haven't been able to put it together yet and they have won just three of their past 10 games while on a current three-game losing streak. They could also be a tired team after just completing a four-game trip that ended with three West Coast losses, including 5-4 in overtime to lowly San Jose on Monday. They will turn to Alex Lyon to right the ship, but he is 2-4-0 with a 3.14 goals-against average. New York will start Ilya Sorokin, who has a 2.70 GAA and a .913 save percentage. Detroit has lost four of six at home and it has allowed 15 goals its past three games overall. The Islanders have won four of five against a team that allowed at least five goals its previous game and the Red Wings are 2-8 versus teams that scored two or fewer their previous game.
