New Jersey is a big dog, but is rested and coming off a 3-1 win over Pittsburgh as a dog. That was the first victory for co-coaches Scott Stevens and Adam Oates after firing coach Peter DeBoer on Friday. They face a slumping Detroit team that's on a 2-7 run. Detroit's offensive production has declined of late. Including a six-goal effort against Buffalo on Dec. 23, the Red Wings have averaged 1.9 over their past nine games. Detroit followed a six-game skid with two straight victories, but came screeching to a halt Monday, losing 5-2 to Boston while allowing season lows in goals and shots (45). The Red Wings are 3-7 against a team with a winning percentage below .400, so grab the big dog and play on New Jersey.
