The Avs' playoffs hopes looked good in mid December. But then the train derailed as they went on a 10-34-4 run. What motivation do they have here? Adam Foote, the last remaining player from the Nordiques team announced Friday he is retiring. This will be his the captain's last home game and I expect emotions to be higher than normal, giving the Avs an edge. Forward Brandon Yip summed it up, saying "We definitely want to put together a strong effort and get a win for him." In addition to the emotional edge, Colorado is the better team here, facing an Oilers team plagued by injuries this season. Edmonton has been outscored this season on the road by a full goal per game. Against disciplined teams like Colorado that average four or fewer power plays per game, Edmonton is just 17-45 this season. When revenging a home loss as a favorite as they are here, the Oilers aer just 3-19 this season. I like Colorado here.
