The oddsmakers are expecting a high-scoring contest here, but hold on. Dallas was focused solely on offense a year ago but has already turned a defensive corner in the new season, shutting out Pittsburgh, 3-0. The Stars were buoyed by the performance of offseason acquisition Antti Niemi, who turned away 37 shots. Dallas is 5-2 UNDER the total on the road against a team with a home winning percentage of less than .400, as well as 4-1 UNDER after allowing two or fewer goals in their previous game. Colorado was cruising along in the opener before a late collapse led to a 5-4 defeat. The Avalanche ranked #22 in the NHL in scoring last season. Sure, they had a pair of power play goals in the opener, but that was just one game: Colorado's power play ranked #29 last year. Don't look for an offensive show and when these teams meet as the UNDER is 11-4-1 in the last 16 meetings in Colorado. Take the UNDER in this one.
