Boston's defense is still solid at #9 in the NHL in goals allowed. But two things have jumpstarted this team, winning five in a row. Tuukka Rask and the Bruins' defense have improved from the #16 ranked unit through Jan. 4 to the NHL's best in their five games since, allowing just six goals on the streak. The offensive production has also improved during a surge which has featured wins over Pittsburgh and Tampa Bay. Torey Krug has seven points during the streak and rookie David Pastrnak has four goals for the Bruins, who have scored three or more in each win. The Bruins are 39-12 at home against a team with a losing road record and into town comes Columbus, a team they have beaten seven of the last eight meetings. The Blue Jackets had to play last night and are 2-7 playing on no rest. Columbus doesn't play any defense at #26 in goals allowed and #23 in penalty killing. They are on a 5-2 run OVER the total, including 4-0 OVER the total on the road. The OVER is also 5-2-3 in the Bruins' last 10 home games. Take Boston and the OVER.
