Buffalo at New Jersey

Buffalo's offense failed to get going in the opener, losing 4-1 to New Jersey. The Sabres had a 2-to-1 end on the power play but went 0-for-4. New Jersey's new goaltender, Jacob Markstrom, made 30 saves. They traded a 2025 first-round pick and Kevin Bahl to the Calgary Flames for Markstrom after finishing 27th in save percentage last season. He was the 2021-22 Vezina Trophy runner-up. The Sabres were 23rd in goals scored and shooting percentage last year and don't look that much better. Another defensive game is likely with these teams playing in Europe.
