Boston has a new coach in Jim Montgomery while Washington's Alex Ovechkin will continue to march towards Wayne Gretzky's career goal record after recording his ninth 50-goal season in 2021-22. The Capitals are the league's oldest team and several players missed significant time due to injuries last year, but the Caps still made the playoffs as the second wild-card team before losing to Carolina in the first round. Perhaps the most important addition is goalie Darcy Kuemper, who finished 37-12-4 with a 2.54 goals-against average and .921 save percentage with five shutouts while leading the Colorado Avalanche to the Stanley Cup championship. Boston will have either Jeremy Sawyman or Linus Ullmark (likely) in net and will start the season with a couple of key injuries as Brad Marchand and Charlie McAvoy will be out for a couple months. The Bruins lost their last five road games last season and they are 6-13 their past 19 meetings at Washington. Take the Capitals.
