New York Jets vs Seattle Seahawks

New York has lost four in a row and Seattle has lost three straight, but the Seahawks still have the edge offensively and they are #13 in the NFL in total yards while averaging 24.3 points. Geno Smith has 3,886 passing yards and 27 touchdowns with nine interceptions. The Jets average just 18.9 points and 10.7 their past three games. Zach Wilson is out for the time being and Mike White is back in and he has a 48.4 QB rating this season and has thrown for 952 yards and three touchdowns and two interceptions. New York is on the verge of elimination from playoff contention and even with a win the Jets would need a lot of help. Seattle needs to capitalize in the opponents' territory after failing three times in that situation last week against Kansas City. Seattle is in a dogfight with several teams for the seventh and final seed in the NFC playoffs and a loss would seriously reduce its chances. The last meeting was in 2020 and the Seahawks demolished the Jets 40-3 on this field. New York is 8-17 ATS its past 25 games versus teams with losing records. The Jets are 8-2 UNDER their past 10 games and the last three have stayed UNDER by an average of 10.8 points and they are 4-1 UNDER their past five road games. Seattle is 5-2-1 UNDER after scoring fewer than 15 points its previous game. Take the Seahawks and the UNDER.

The New York Jets had a well-timed bye week after a horrid performance at home where they were beaten badly by Miami, 30-9. In that game, players were accused of giving up. Is it all over for the Jets, at 3-5 and coming off a humiliating loss? I don't think it's over quite yet. The Jets are talking like a playoffs team and even at 3-5, they are still just two games out of the last wildcard spot. Coach Ryan hinted at some changes to exploit the Seahawks, but wouldn't fully disclose just what. One change needs to be with QB Mark Sanchez's issues with ball security as he has six fumbles and five INTs over the last five games. Let's not forget that the Jets went to Foxboro and almost beat the Patriots. So, they certainly are capable of winning here or at least playing competitive. The biggest problem for Seattle has been finding offense and the end-zone. Through nine games the Seahawks have scored 16 points or less in five of them. Those are tough numbers if you’re backing nearly a TD favorite. Russell Wilson is still a rookie and has played erratically, throwing eight INTs on the season. Rex Ryan is the master of disguise, and having two weeks to scheme the defense. I think the Jets hang around in this one.

The Jets put together a stretch of games over the middle of the season in which it seemed like this team had put it all together. It culminating with a huge road win over the then undefeated Tennessee Titans and it seemed that they were destined for a deep playoff run. It now appears that this team may have peaked too early as they have been reeling ever since. After two straight losses by a combined 27 points, the Jets were very lucky to escape at home against a Bills team that has hit the skids at 1-7 in their last eight. New York needed a defensive TD with just two minutes to go to pull a win out of another defeat, so things aren't exactly rosy with this team right now. The Seahawks have had a miserable season as they enter this game with just three wins to 11 losses. One would think this is exactly what the Jets need - to face a team late in the year that has mailed it in. The fact is, the Seahawks haven't mailed it in. In a totally meaningless game last week, they found themselves down 17-7 at the half, and for a team that had mailed it in there would be no second-half effort. But the Seahawks stormed back to a 16-3 inspired second half to pull out the win. In the week prior, they went to New England and led the game deep into the fourth quarter before losing by just a FG. So there is one thing for sure and that is this team is still playing hard, but also competitively. They have a chance to do some damage to the Jets' playoff situation, and the Jets are struggling right now. This is a good spot for a team that is playing free and loose like the Seahawks against a Jets team that may be hitting the panic button.
