Week 6 finds an extra dimension added to NFL handicapping: the bye week. This is a nice break for teams to rest and heal for the first time since the dog days of August. The catch is: not all bye weeks are created equal.
That is, ideally coaches would prefer to have the bye week closer to the middle of the season or later in the year. Having a breather then is a bigger boon for playoff teams that earn a bye in the NFL postseason, having a bye in November or December, then again in early January.
Conversely, teams that have a bye in Week 6 then have no time off from Weeks 7-to-17, a grueling stretch. Teams coming off a bye week can be worth a look at to wager on, while ones that haven't had a break can be in multiple tired situational spots.

Why Use NFL Week 6 Picks
There are many situational spots that can factor into handicapping a contest, including flying 3,000 miles on a long road trip, emotional let-down spots, and bye weeks. Professional bettors examine all the angles to try and identify wagering edges when making NFL football picks.
If you're a bettor just starting out, keep in mind that even beginners will discover they have a knack for identifying spread value, such as the team they follow most closely, the division that team plays in, or other kinds of wagers beyond sides, such as totals and NFL props.
Free picks that are released by the NFL experts are one of many layers you can utilize to identify potential winners while accruing more and more knowledge of the industry.
Betting Value in NFL Week 6 Picks
If a team is on a bye week, examine who they're playing next week, a game they will have had two weeks to prepare. Is it a key divisional game? Will it be at home? Is it a rivalry or revenge spot?
Keep tabs on what local newspapers are unearthing tidbits during the week. If several players are saying, "We were embarrassed the last team we played that team and can't wait to take the field," that's a clue that this is not just an ordinary contest of a long 17-game season.
Or if a team is using the bye week to get rest for several injured starters who should be able to return that can be a sign that there's wagering value on tap.
Wunderdog NFL Week 6 Picks
I examine all the aspects of every game on the card, then release only the choice selections with multiple factors behind them. Math is a subject in school many people couldn't stand, but it's one of my many strong points and I pounce on games that have even a small mathematical edge in the point spread, as low as one or half-a-point.
Over the course of long seasons, even half a point is important between winning extra games and losing a few close ones that eat into your betting bankroll. It's not about Lady Luck.
It's about putting the time in and using all the handicapping tools at my disposal that has allowed me to best the oddsmakers consistently for over two decades.

Situational Edges
Not all NFL teams are prepared the same for each game. Teams that have come off an emotional home game on Sunday probably won't be as focused mentally or physically for an away game on Thursday night on short rest.
Teams that were knocked out of the playoffs in a blowout the previous season could have the rematch the next season circled on the calendar for months, their own personal "Game of the Year."
One season the Broncos had lost two of three and were hosting the 10-0 Patriots, the only unbeaten team in the league. The game meant far more to Denver to end their slump...and did in a 30-24 win as a home underdog.
Road Trips
The schedule-maker can factor into handicapping, such as when NFL teams play four road games in five weeks. The league tries to limit the number of consecutive road games to two. trying to put those stretched at the beginning and end of a season.
But it doesn't always work out that way with times they have to play three straight road contests. One season, the Steelers had their bye in Week 7, then ended the regular season playing six road games in nine weeks. That grueling trek ended in a 42-21 playoff loss at Kansas City.
Line Movement
Betting lines often move during the week. The key is to understand why it's moving and who is moving it. If a starting quarterback is out or hobbled by an injury, everyone is aware of this and money will likely come in on the other team.
But other times there are subtle factors involved that the average bettor isn't up on. If an opening line is weak or some late information becomes available, big money can pour in from just a handful of betting sharps. The opinion of those few Wise Guys carry more weight than millions of average bettors.
