Whats up with this total? It started at 195.5 and has moved 11 full points! Someone certainly thinks this game is going OVER. Its not us. The last 10 times these teams have met in New Jersey, the point totals were:205 (89-89 before overtime - 178 in regulation)177182174161160165180189170 I know why this total is posted so high. Toronto has remade its entire team, they have 6 European players, and 9 new faces. last year they played no defense, but this year in exhibition play they shaved 7 points off of that. Its been their focus, even though they want to uptempo as they did last year. The problem is NJ never plays high scoring games at home. The last 4 years, covering 164 games at home, they have played to a posted total of 200+ only 11 times. They went UNDER in 9 of them! Last year the Nets at home scored 100+ in just 12 of 41 games and gave up 100+ in just 10 of 41 games. Since the home team controls the tempo of a game in the NBA the majority of the time, you gotta like the UNDER here. What about the visiting team? Last year Toronto scored 100+ on road 15 times in non-OT games and yielded 100+ 23 times out of 42 non-OT games. So, each of these teams had 166 oppotunities to score/allow 100+ points in these above situatinos (NJ at home and TOR on the road). 100+ was reached just 59 total times out of 166 (35%). Now when you throw in the fact that these two teams that have a strong propensity to keep things under 100 are playe each other, the chances go up even further that this wont reach this very lofty total. Take the UNDER here.
