Houston has a new coach but they're playing their same old lousy defense. Mike D'Antoni debuted as the Rockets' coach as they suffered a 120-114 loss to the Lakers. Houston was just 7-of-29 from three-point range in the opener and missed 15-of-16 second-half attempts, while the defense allowed 50.6% shooting as the Lakers hit 12 threes. Dallas is well coached and in bounce-back mode after a 130-121 loss at Indiana. The Mavericks are 7-3 ATS after allowing 100 points or more in their previous game, as well as 11-4 ATS after surrendering more than 125 points. Small forward Harrison Barnes experienced a solid debut with Dallas by producing 19 points and nine rebounds. Barnes was lured away from the Golden State Warriors with a four-year, $95 million contract.
