NBA proposition betting is another piece of the handicapping pie. Marquee TV regular season games and playoff battles will feature props on how many points or rebounds an individual player will have. In addition, there can be excellent wagering value on team totals, such as the Over/Under on how many points one team will score.   Oddsmakers have a lot of data that line up to project sides and totals, but that's less so with props. That's why many sportsbooks don't allow bettors to parlay proposition wagers. They're jittery that a couple of weak props will be pounded and parlayed by sharp players forcing them. The last thing they want is to break even on the side and total but take a financial parlay prop bath.

Why Use Free NBA Prop Picks

For a professional handicapper, the goal is to win. And you do that by narrowing down and playing the best odds on the card. While the average bettor focuses on sides, totals, and moneylines, the pros search all the available numbers the oddsmakers put up. Proposition bets are a great way to exploit betting numbers. Reading through free NBA Prop picks from a documented professional kickstarts your daily handicapping. You'll not only get soft numbers to attack but it will expand your insight on all the different ways to approach proposition betting.

Betting Value in Free NBA Prop Picks

Props get little attention and action from the average bettor, so they get less attention from oddsmakers. Less attention means the door opens to potential mistakes and advantages to wager on. With less public money coming in on props it also means the oddsmakers are less motivated to move prop numbers or be too concerned as the handle will be smaller.   Their focus is where most of the money is: on the sides and totals. For instance, run through the point total props on individual players on each team. Make a projection on what you think each will be based on their season stats and the kinds of defense that they're facing.   If they're facing a lousy defense, the player is likely to have a better offensive game than usual. Then compare your numbers with the actual props. Many will be comparable, but some will be significantly off. Those are the ones you focus on representing the best wagering value.

Wunderdog Free NBA Prop Picks

I examine all the odds that pop up each morning, including props, and delve into the data right away. While sides and totals are going to move during the day, props generally don't. It makes it easier to identify the softer props and compile a list, which I then send out to clients.  A portion of the free plays you receive from me will be NBA proposition bets, so take advantage to see what prop value I've discovered. Compare it to your own and delve deeper into the props I've picked. You can wager on mine, or simply digest the information and reasoning to expand your handicapping knowledge.

How To Win With Free NBA Prop Picks

Proposition wagering was introduced to give bettors more choices to increase the action on a limited number of games. Now props and team totals are more widely available even with many games on the board. While this provides more work for serious handicappers, it also provides far more soft lines and winning potential.  The mechanics to identify winning props are the same as with sides and totals - accrue and study information. Then you take that one step further by examining how the individual player matches up against the opposing defense.  Will a player get 30 shots or 10? Will a point guard have a big day with assists, or is he facing an elite defense or one that double-teams the star forward so he'll have to score more and pass less? That narrows down what you think the accurate prop number should be compared to the actual number.

Bounce Back Games

Even the best NBA players have bad shooting nights. It happens. But prop players should take notice as they can bounce back with a hot shooting performance the next time out as it's tough to keep a great scorer down for long. Yes, even Michael Jordan had some bad shooting nights. In Game 4 of one NBA Finals, Jordan was 11-of-27 for just 22 points in a 78-73 loss on the road.   The famous "flu game" followed where MJ had a 103-degree fever. Well, he also exploded for 38 points sailing OVER the prop total. Steph Curry had his worst NBA Finals in Game 5 against Boston with 16 points. In Game 6, he more than doubled that with 34 points.

Team Totals

There are team props available during the regular season and the playoffs: Over/Under how many total points will one team score? The key is less about the number of points that the team averages but more about what kind of defense they're facing. Any team is going to struggle offensively when facing an elite defensive team, one that is strong in field goal shooting percentage allowed points surrendered, and/or 3-point defense. Team defense is a combination of skilled athletic players who can play tough defense and coaches who demand a strong defensive effort all game.  Some coaches prefer an uptempo game and will allow their teams to coast defensively for stretches. The stats should reveal that they are unlikely to be elite defensive squads. Examine the matchup to see if they're playing a great, mediocre, or poor defensive team to identify the value in team total props.

How a Coach Utilizes a Player

Most star players are going to get the majority of shots each night. But that's not always the case. Some coaches have a history of double-teaming star offensive players trying to force them to pass more or make shots more difficult. Those stars can have an off-night shooting or decide to pass the basketball more.  In addition, coaches will often ask multi-skilled players to focus more on defense than offense given the matchup. A great all-around player may score 20 points per game on average, but if he's asked to match up with the other team's best offensive threat, he's sacrificing his scoring for the betterment of the team. It's possible to look ahead and gauge whether that is going to happen given the player's history or the coaching strategy.
