Washington had a rare three-game winning streak snapped with a 4-1 loss on Tuesday as Nolan Gorman hit a homer and drove in two runs for the Cardinals, who have won 18 of their past 23 games and opened an 8 1/2 game lead in the NL Central. Jordan Montgomery has been sensational since coming to St. Louis from the Yankees and the Cardinals have won all six of his starts, including 8-0 over the Cubs on Friday when he pitched six scoreless innings on seven hits. Montgomery had a 1.76 ERA in August with a .193 opponent batting average. Cory Abbott will make his fifth start for the Nationals and likely will go four or five innings at the most and he has allowed 13 runs in 26 2/3 innings this year. The Cardinals are 21-5 with a posted total of 7.0-8.5 and they are 38-15 their past 53 home games. The Nationals are 5-22 on the road versus left-handed starters. Take the Cardinals as a Max Play.
