Washington at St. Louis

Washington is in a totally demoralized state of mind as it has lost three in a row and six of its last eight, including two walk-off losses. There are reports of dissension in the clubhouse and the Nationals are quickly losing ground in the playoff picture. Meanwhile, St. Louis has won seven in a row and benefitting from the managerial change to Mike Shildt and the Cardinals improved to 31-26 at home with Tuesday's 6-4 victory. Austin Gomber goes tonight and he is 2-0 with a 3.45 ERA in three starts and he allowed no runs on four hits in five innings in a 7-0 win over Kansas City on Friday. Washington has lost 20 of its last 28 road games and they are 2-5 in Jeremy Hellickson's last seven road starts and the Cardinals have won six straight versus right-handed starters.
