Detroit has stayed around the .500 mark this season, which is an improvement from the past several years, and the Tigers come off a 10-2 win over Milwaukee on Sunday before having the day off yesterday. Kenta Maeda has been cleared to start after leaving his last outing after just a couple pitches due to abdominal discomfort. Maeda has been inconsistent this season, but he has shown flashes of good form such as when he threw five shutout innings against Toronto on May 24. Detroit has won four of five home games against teams with losing records and Washington is 0-5 versus losing teams. The Nationals have lost Mitchell Parker's past two starts although he allowed only five runs in 12 2/3 innings. The Nationals are 33-29 UNDER this season.
