Neither of these clubs are going anywhere. It is time to take a look at players that can help them out of the losing state these teams have been in over several years. The Cubs are a very poor 27-32 at home. Between these two clubs, the upside in Washington is much brighter as they have improved tremendously over the past few years. Matt Garza was supposed to stabilize a poor pitching staff, but after posting 15 wins a year ago in Tampa, he has but five wins the entire season in a Cubs uniform. Chien Ming Wang is a wildcard for the Nats as he hadn't pitched for over two years and in two starts, he certainly looked promising in his last outing allowing just a pair of runs. This is a guy that went 46-15 in a three-year period with the Yankees before getting hurt. I think he offers more than the oddsmakers are issuing here, and Garza hasn't been very good in this role opening a series where his teams are 1-6 in the last seven openers. Washington gets the call.
