The Rays hung in the tough AL East race for quite awhile, but now they stand at just a half game better than the Blue Jays, who with a win can move into third. Jamie Shields hasn't been striking the win column of late with the Rays dropping five of his last six starts and on the season Shields is the owner of a sub-.500 record at home. Carlos Villanueva has pitched admirably in his conversion from the pen and owns a better than .500 mark on the road. The Jays have some incentive here to move into third, have some momentum off of last night's win and are 7-0 in their last seven vs. top pitchers, those with a WHIP of less than 1.15. The Rays are looking for the life preserver with Shields on the mound after scoring 2 runs or less in the game before he starts, where they are an ugly 4-18 in their last 22. Toronto gets the call.
