"You're only as good as the next day's starting pitcher," Earl Weaver used to say. Toronto is rolling along, but for this one they have 40-year old R.A. Dickey (10-10, 4.01 ERA) going, 2-7 on the road with a 5.02 ERA. The Blue Jays are 2-6 when Dickey starts on the road against a team with a winning record. He faces a New York offense that is second in baseball in runs scored. Blue Jays SS Troy Tulowitzki was diagnosed with a small fracture in his left shoulder blade after a collision on Saturday and is out indefinitely. Meanwhile, New York is home for the 10th straight game and hungry for a win. Fortunately ace Masahiro Tanaka (11-6, 3.57 ERA) gets the nod, and the Yankees are 12-2 when he faces a team with a winning record. Tanaka has been sharp against the Toronto offense this season with a 3.32 ERA and a .191 opponent batting average in three starts against the Jays. The Yankees are 14-6 in Tanaka's last 20 starts, including 25-12 when he starts on natural grass. The Blue Jays are 16-35 at Yankee stadium, 1-4 when Dickey starts here, so grab the home team. Play the New York Yankees.
