The Rays have played over their heads on the road the entire season, and it is beginning to catch up to them. They are 3-6 in their last nine as they slowly slip out of the race in the rugged AL East. The problem has been a bad offense that avoided being shutout through 38 games, but has since been shutout 10 times. The Rays have now lost seven straight series to American League teams and are fading fast. Oakland's season was washed away during a 6-20 stretch, but otherwise this team has been good. Guillermo Moscoso has pitched to a 2.96 ERA for the A's, and at home he has been one of the league's best at 1.99 on the season. The A's have played admirably at home vs. winning teams where they are now 8-2 in their last 10, and the Rays have always stumbled here in Oakland at just 15-38 in their last 53.
