The lifeline of the Tampa Bay offense from a year ago was Carl Crawford at the top with his .300+ average and blazing speed, and Carlos Pena sitting with cleanup duty with his HR and RBI prowess. Those ingredients are no longer in the mix and the Rays’ consistency at the plate has felt their absence. The Rays come into this one scoring 4 or less in 30 games already. The Tigers’ offense has been dead on arrival to the park in their last eight games, and has not topped the 3-run mark in any of them, averaging just 2 per contest. Soft offense and adequate pitching has led to just one of their last 13 at home vs. a team with a winning record making it over the total. The Rays’ production is down vs. lefthanders, resulting in a 15-4-2 mark to the UNDER vs. a southpaw. The UNDER is the play.
