We were on Detroit last night and cruised to a 7-1 victory. See nothing different tonight as this matchup just isn't fair. We get to fade a 12-24 road team that has dropped five of seven - a team that can't hit (4.0 runs per game on the road and against righties) and with a bad bullpen (5.43 ERA). We'll be backing a 42-23 team that is for real and looks for their fifth straight win. The starting pitching matchup is tough to call. Mark Hendrickson has a 4.11 overall ERA but has pitched better on the road than at home and goes 6.7 innings per start. For Detroit Jeremy Bonderman has 4.29 overall ERA but pitches worse at home. But, I give the edge to Bonderman who has a much better WHIP and has done well of late having given up just 8 runs in hist last three starts in 21 innings. Hendrickson has allowed 12 runs in his last three in 19 innings. With Leyland at the helm, Detroit is an amazing 23-5 off 2 or more consecutive wins. They are 28-10 as a favorite this season and 14-4 vs. bad teams. While they aren't lighting up the scoreboard at home this season, they score more than Tampa Bay, they have the starting pitching advantage, a huge bullpen advantage, homefield advantage and they simply know how to win. Tigers here.
