While the season has been a nightmare thus far for the Rays, they got the monkey off their backs on Friday with a win over the White Sox. This line is shaded thanks to Tampa's 1-7 mark as the oddsmakers need to entice the public to take them. This team isn't as bad as their start would indicate. Let's not forget that they won the AL East last season. Their .167 batting average is just not going to hold that low. The same can be said of Chicago's offense thus far - .311 batting an 7 runs per game won't hold. As things regress to the mean, there will be value on backing Tampa Bay and fading the Sox. That's what I'm doing today. Throw in the fact that under Joe Maddon this Rays team is 34-22 vs. teams at .620 or better and we have a play on the Rays here.
