The Cardinals will have their ace on the mound tonight against the Giants. Chris Carpenter, when healthy, is as solid as they come. The problem here is that Lohse was forced to be scratched from his start, and now everyone moves up a day. Carpenter was going to get five days between starts, but will pitch in rotation and standard rest. Carpenter has spent more time on the DL than he certainly would like, missing a month already this year, and has thrown just 44 innings the last three years combined. He went eight innings in his last start, and may have some problems here. The Giants go with Barry Zito, and while they have not fared well on the road this season, the Giants are competitive at home posting a 17-8 mark - second best in the NL. And when you consider that included a four-game home losing streak, they are 17-4 otherwise. There is lots of value on a team winning 68% of the time on their own diamond, so I will take the Giants here on the runline.
