A lot of the potential in the St. Louis Cardinals’ season went up in flames before a pitch was thrown. Adam Wanwright went down with a season-ending arm injury in spring training. Chris Carpenter, who has been almost automatic, is now showing the combined effects of age and injury. As a result, he has been relegated to an average pitcher. That has put added pressure on the likes of tonight's pitcher Kevin Lohse. Lohse embraced the task early, starting the Cardinals off to a 5-1 mark on the road when he was on the hill, but they are just 3-5 since. The Pirates are looking for help in the rotation and have experimented with Brad Lincoln and the success has been good in the early going. Lincoln has made three starts and allowed a combined 5 runs. The edge here goes to the home dog, so Pittsburgh gets the call.
