St. Louis is so dominant and balanced, including in the field, third in baseball with the fewest errors made. That great defense in the field has aided veteran righty Jake Westbrook, a guy who throws strikes and has a 2.21 ERA. The St. Louis offense is third in baseball in runs scored, batting average, and on-base percentage. All of which explains a sizzling 27-15 road record, better than Oakland has at home. The Cardinals are 21-9 in their last 30 road games and 4-1 in Westbrook's last five starts. The Cardinals lead the majors with a .338 batting average with runners in scoring position. No other team in baseball is hitting over .300. Oakland is the favorite here, but why? Oakland is just 6-8 the last 14 games and has shaky starter Tommy Milone (6-7, 4.06 ERA) going. He is 0-2 with a 5.94 ERA his last three starts, walking eight in 16+ innings, and Oakand’s bullpen has surrendered 15 runs over its last 17 2/3 innings. The Athletics are 3-8 in Milone's last 11 starts as a favorite, and the Cardinals are 8-3 in the last 11 meetings. Play the Cardinals.
