Adam Wainwright spent all of last year in the bullpen and this season, desparate for starting pitching, the Cards converted him to a starter. The experiment looked like it was going up in flames early on as Wainwright carried a 6.34 ERA through his first eight starts. He has finally figured it out, and has gotten comfortable in his new role. Wainwright over his last seven starts has pitched to a good 2.91 ERA. The Cards, having a poor season to date, have won 9 of his 15 starts (60%). Orlando Hernandez is no secret. He finds a stint or two on the DL each year, shows up for big games, and has a history of being a frontline pitcher with long rest and a journeymen on regular rest. The last three years has seen El Duque, when given at least an extra day of rest, hard to beat. His teams are 23-14 when that occurs. Tonight is a different story, as he will pitch in rotation. When that has happened he has been mediocre. His teams have gone a bad 11-14! The Cards will feature six players in their line-up tonight that have a combined average of .300 vs. El Duque, so we will ride the dog in this one.
