St. Louis at Chicago

St. Louis has a new manager in Mike Shildt and will try to turn around its season after a disappointing first half, and Carlos Martinez appears to be the right pitcher to start it off. Martinez has settled down and has not allowed more than three runs over his last four starts while giving up just one home run and, most importantly, issuing just five walks in the four games. Control had been Martinez's problem the first couple months of the season. Kyle Hendricks also has come on strong his last two starts, allowing one run in 8 1/3 innings at San Francisco and he was the winning pitcher at San Diego allowing two runs on five hits in five innings. The right-hander has a 3.18 ERA at home this season with a .207 opponent batting average. The UNDER is 19-8 in Hendricks' last 27 starts and Chicago has gone UNDER 11 of its last 16 home games against right-handed starters and the Cubs are 37-16-1 UNDER in Hendricks' last 54 home starts dating to last season.
