In need of pitching, the Giants took a flyer on Randy Johnson, but it looks like the $8 million on a soon-to-be 46-year-old pitcher, has been a huge mistake. Johnson has pitched to an 11.05 ERA in his last three starts, and close to seven for the season. His once-dominating fastball has been diminished with age and he has already served up 10 HRs in just 40 innings. The Mariners counter with Jason Vargas who has looked very tough with a 1.29 ERA in his 14 innings of work. He also shut down two of the best offenses in baseball in Texas and Boston in his two starts by holding them to a single run each. I like this matchup, and will go with the Mariners here against a struggling Randy Johnson.
