Most would be surprised to see last year's world champion San Francisco Giants come into this game at 15 games below .500. They have been no better on the season than the San Diego Padres who enter with an identical record. Madison Bumgarner has not won since August 2nd, despite pitching very well. He is just 1-7 in his last eight starts as the Giants' offense has failed to get on track all season. Robbie Erlin has been great at home and is off a 1-run 6-inning performance in his last outing vs. Arizona. He is 1-0 in a pair of home starts on the season with a nifty 2.77 ERA. Not a lot of land mines in the Giants' attack, and he should do well here. The Giants are 0-7 in Bumgarner's last seven starts on grass, and San Diego is a different team at home at five games over .500. Play on the home dog and back San Diego.
